The Brigate Rosse, also known as the Red Brigades, were an Italian left-wing extremist group that emerged in the late 1960s. The group was highly active during the 1970s and 1980s and was responsible for a series of violent actions, including kidnappings, bombings, and assassinations. The Brigate Rosse aimed to overthrow the capitalist system and establish a communist state in Italy. They targeted politicians, businessmen, and law enforcement officials whom they saw as representing the oppressive capitalist system. The group's most notorious action was the kidnapping and subsequent murder of former Prime Minister Aldo Moro in 1978. The Brigate Rosse's activities eventually declined in the 1980s due to the arrest and imprisonment of many of its members.
