The Operation Epsom, which took place towards the end of June 1944, was a crucial battle in the Normandy campaign during World War II. It was launched by the British Second Army, with the objective of capturing the town of Caen from German forces.

VIII Corps with support from XXX Corps were to spearhead the operation. For this, the 15th Scottish Infantry Division, the 31st Tank Brigade and the 43rd Wessex Infantry Division played crucial roles.

Despite initial setbacks and heavy casualties, the operation ultimately succeeded in drawing German forces away from the American sector and weakening their defenses. The battle at Epsom demonstrated the determination and resilience of the Allied forces as they continued to push forward in their efforts to liberate France. This operation marked a significant turning point in the Normandy campaign, setting the stage for the eventual liberation of Caen and the successful advance of the Allied forces towards victory in Europe.
