On 6 June 1944, Gold Beach and Sword Beach played significant roles in the historic Normandy landings of World War II. Gold Beach, located in the British sector, was targeted by the 50th Infantry Division and the 8th Armoured Brigade. Despite facing fierce resistance from German defenders, the British forces managed to secure the beachhead and create a vital link between the neighboring landing sites. Meanwhile, Sword Beach, also in the British sector, was assigned to the 3rd Infantry Division and the 27th Armoured Brigade. The troops faced a challenging task as they encountered strong German defenses and had to overcome obstacles under heavy fire. Nevertheless, their determination and bravery prevailed, and Sword Beach became a crucial foothold for the Allied forces, enabling them to advance further inland. These two beaches, along with the others, marked the beginning of the liberation of Europe from Nazi occupation.
